Chart: Housing Vacancy Rates Trend

Posted: Updated:

Only 2 percent of Clark County's single-family homes were vacant in 2000 but the vacancy rate hit a peak of 6.4 percent in 2008, dipped to 5.2 percent in 2009 and rose again to nearly 5.8 percent last year. Multi-family units, which had a 6.5 percent vacancy rate in 2000, hit a peak vacancy rate of 11.5 percent last year, according to Clark County Comprehensive Planning. One reason multi-family units have higher vacancy rates than homes is that renters have found they often can obtain more space in a home than an apartment for the same monthly rent.
