Suspect in Teen's Murder Indicted, New Charges Added

LAS VEGAS -- The 19-year-old arrested in the sexual assault and murder of Alyssa Otremba is now facing more charges involving a second victim. A Grand Jury indicted Javier Righetti Friday on a total of 10 charges.

During the Grand Jury proceeding, prosecutors revealed more disturbing information about Righetti and his criminal history. The indictment details two victims and two separate incidents.

First, the Grand Jury found enough evidence to proceed with murder charges in the death and sexual assault of Alyssa Otremba. She was the 15-year-old Arbor View High School student who prosecutors say Righetti attacked, murdered, and then burned her body.

During the course of the Otremba investigation, prosecutors say police were able to get enough evidence involving a March 2011 sexual assault and strangulation on another 15-year-old girl. She survived the attack.

The 15-year-old had to testify and relive her experience in front of the Grand Jury Thursday.

"In cases of sexual assault, victims have to testify and they have to relive it in front of a jury and be subject to cross examination, so its an emotionally difficult process," said District Attorney David Roger.

During the Grand Jury proceeding, prosecutors said Righetti is a danger to the community and a flight risk. They also said Righetti committed his first sexual assault when he was 12.

Two weeks before allegedly murdering Alyssa Otrema, prosecutors say Righetti was in Mexico and committed another sexual assault against his cousin.

In total, Righetti faces 10 counts including sexual assault, strangulation, burglary, and murder. He is scheduled to be back in court for his arraignment on October 20, 2011.
