Hundreds of Millions Paid in Improper Unemployment Benefits

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- Nevada has paid out $277 million to erroneous unemployment insurance claims over the last three years, according to the Department of Labor.

They say about 10 percent of the jobless benefits paid out here are improper. Fifty-nine percent of the improper payments go to people who have found a job but still keep collecting unemployment anyway.

Twenty percent of the time they are due to a mixup over the claimants last day of work.
