LAS VEGAS - Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating two separate, serious motorcycle accidents.

The first occurred near Blue Diamond Road and Rainbow Boulevard shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday night. Police say two cars, a Nissan and a Mitsubishi, were traveling westbound on Blue Diamond.

The Mitsubishi attempted a U-turn in front of the Nissan, causing the Nissan to strike the vehicle. The Nissan pulled over to the side of the road after the accident. The Mitsubishi remained on the road.

A short time later, a Kawasaki motorcycle - traveling westbound on Blue Diamond - struck the Mitsubishi. The rider of the motorcycle was ejected. He was transported to University Medical Center where he later died. Police say it is unclear how fast the motorcycle was traveling at the time of the accident.

The second accident occurred a short time later on southbound Interstate 15 near Flamingo Road.

NHP says the rider was traveling at least 100 mph and attempting a wheelie when he struck a metal barrier. He was hospitalized in critical condition.
