Woman Takes Plea Deal in Las Vegas HOA Fraud Case

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A 35-year-old Las Vegas construction business employee became the third person to plead guilty in a federal probe of condominium homeowner associations steering business to favored law firms and businesses in southern Nevada.

Federal and local law enforcement officials say Marcella Triana pleaded guilty Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud charges that could carry a sentence of up to 30 years in prison.

However, prosecutors have promised more cases in the sweeping regional HOA probe, and Triana has agreed to cooperate.

Her sentencing was set for Dec. 14.

Federal officials say Triana was a straw buyer of a home and became a board member in the Chateau Versailles community and she helped manipulate board elections at the Park Avenue condominiums.
