LAS VEGAS -- Irene continues to cause havoc at airports across the country, including McCarran where cancellations are causing a huge headache for hundreds of passengers.
There is a lot of anxiety and frustration as people wait for hours trying to find a flight home. 8 News Now was told police had to be called McCarran on Saturday to calm down furious passengers. By Sunday, the situation was peaceful as people accepted the fact, their travel home would be delayed.
As Irene stormed up the East Coast, the ripple effect of her wrath is caused problems at McCarran. The word "canceled" was a common site on the flight boards.
Sharon Waddle and her husband Rick are trying to get home to Hot Springs, Arkansas. They'll have to settle for a hotel room.
"Thought we were going home, not today," said Waddle.
"Came to Las Vegas to have a good time, Hurricane Irene done us wrong," said Rick Waddle.
Taking pictures is a way for Monica Perez to pass the time as she waits hours in line after line. There was more than 8,300 canceled flights over the weekend around the country.

"What am I going to do? Am I going to have a hotel to sleep in tonight or am I going to have to sleep here at the airport? And nobody's telling you anything, so you're just kind of on standby," said Perez.
But out of the many people 8 News Now talked with, Pat Carey may have it worst.
"I never thought I was going to see a hurricane in New Jersey," said Carey
Her town was evacuated and she has no clue what's left of her home. "We're under evacuation and we can't really get to it yet but my neighbors are keeping me updated and I'm hoping that I don't have too much damage," said Carey.
Michael and Melissa Smith just got married. They say the best wedding gift this weekend was the fact they could return home Washington D.C. "We got lucky."
Travelers heading to the East Coast, delays are being reported as late as Thursday. Most other travelers will leave Las Vegas on Monday.
