NASCAR Cafe Sells Off History

NASCAR Cafe Sells Off History

LAS VEGAS -- There were no pit stops for hundreds of passionate NASCAR fans Thursday, racing into the former NASCAR Cafe at the recently-closed Sahara Hotel for pieces of history.

Helmets, jumpsuit's, and even cars were up for grabs. In the sea of NASCAR fans, Vicky Nuno Ramsouer is in position to make a push for her family's favorites.

"Getting some Kyle Busch stuff for my daughter, Jimmy Johnson stuff for my husband, Karl Edwards for myself," she said.

But others out there are just as hungry. Ramsouer says she's ready to throw an elbow, channeling her inner-Dale Earnhardt. Inside, dedicated fans find everything they can ever want -- uniforms or cars from their favorite drivers to furniture and fixtures used by the former restaurant.

"Virtually everything in here is going, right down to the tin off the walls," said Donald Hayes with National Content Liquidators.

Some are after the memorabilia, while others are after memories.

"They came to get a piece of their history, to get a stool or table that they sat at every Sunday morning when they came to watch the NASCAR races," said Hayes.

"It's wonderful think of your grandchildren when they grow up, you have this piece of history handed down to them," said Karen Miller.

Ramsouer says with more than 2,000 items, she had high hopes, but half the items were gone within the first hour.

"I thought they were going to have shirts -- even in the shop at one time they had a whole bunch of stuff. I don't know if they got rid of it or what, but oh well," said Ramsouer.

But for these dedicated fans, one last lap around the former restaurant is rewarding. It's a trip down memory lane.

"We tried to come early, tried to see what we could get but didn't work out. But its alright, we had fun," said Ramsouer.

National Content Liquidators, which runs the sale, says it limited the number of buyers in the cafe to keep the crowd under control. The sale continues daily and everything is on a first come, first served basis.
