LAS VEGAS - Metro Police are looking for a man who opened fire on a group of people gathered outside a funeral home near Main St. and Washington Ave.
The shooting happened just before 7 p.m. after a visitation for 21-year-old Andres Elena, the victim of a fatal stabbing at New York-New York last week.
Witnesses say the suspect attended the visitation and was seen mingling with mourners when he suddenly pulled out a gun and opened fire outside Palm Mortuary.
"They went down, and you see the bodies go down," said eyewitness Ty Spence. "Everyone was in shock and in panic and running. It was just total chaos, a terrible situation."
Seven people, including one juvenile, sustained gunshot wounds and were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators say it is very unusual to have a shooting with so many victims. It is also unusual for one to take place at a funeral home.
The suspect fled the scene in a white 1970's Chevy El Camino with a unique design on the door that featured a purple background and a brown number 7 in the foreground. The car also had chrome rims. It was last seen traveling southbound on Main St.
Metro is investigating the possibility the shooting is gang-related.
The family of Andres Elena believes this funeral was targeted by associates of the accused stabber. His name is Victor Quijano, and he sits in jail on murder charges.
Anyone with information on Wednesday night's shooting is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
