Skywalk Developer Files Motion to Reconsider in Federal Court

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- The lawsuit over the Grand Canyon Skywalk took another turn Tuesday.

After financial problems and a falling-out with the Hualapai Tribe, developer David Jin sued. But the case has bounced around between federal and tribal courts. The latest decision reverses a motion to keep the case in tribal court.

Aimee Romero, a spokesperson for David Jin said in a statement, "We are gratified that, in light of the Tribe's legal maneuvering, the judge has agreed to hear our arguments and determine if the case will remain in his court."

Jin's lawyers were worried they could not get a fair hearing in that court and that the tribe could potentially seize the Skywalk.

Dave Cieslak, a spokesman for the Hualapai Tribe said in a statement, "In no way does Mr. Jin's motion to reconsider have any effect on Judge Campbell's dismissal of this case - there is no "decision" by the Court reversing that Order - just Mr. Jin's motion so requesting. We feel the judge's ruling was fair and legally correct, put this issue to rest, and believe Judge Campbell will re-affirm it. We simply ask Mr. Jin to engage in honest negotiations to end this dispute."

The case will continue in the middle of July.
