Drivers Opt for Window Tinting to Avoid Rays

LAS VEGAS -- Triple digits days are back and Las Vegans are doing what they can to stay cool at home, at work and in their cars. That means big business for some local companies.

At Accentrick Tint located at Valley View Blvd. and Sunset Rd., workers are trying to keep up with the demand of cars and trucks needing tinted windows. Tinting can do more than just keep your car cooler, it may help you prevent skin damage as well.

The Proctor family is like many in Las Vegas, trying to stay cool during the summer months. "It is already hot, I mean my skin is already burning," said Devon Proctor who is getting her car windows tinted.

It is before 10 a.m. and the afternoon heat hasn't even settled in but the Proctor's didn't want to wait one more day.

"Living in Vegas you need to have tinted windows, it keeps the sun off you, it keeps the sun off your children, I have a 5-year-old son," said Proctor. She said her boy, Landon, was always complaining of the sun being on his face.

Car after car needing to be tinted has kept the staff at Accentrick Tint extra busy. "The tint blocks out the UV's from damaging your children skin, and well as your own and your passengers in the vehicle," said Kenny Heuer, Accentrick Tint.

He says tinting can also be used on homes. "When we install the window tint, it traps the cold air in the vehicle , and cold air in the house and for a few hundred bucks, it's not only your car you can be keeping cool, but also keeping yourself from potential danger," Heuer said.

Before you get your windows tinted, there is a law that must be followed.  The passenger and driver's side can only be tinted 35 percent or less. But the rear windows can be as dark as you'd like. Heuer says some mechanics have told him having tinted windows even saves on gas because you may not run your AC as much.
