LAS VEGAS - Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman started his "Martini with the Mayor" events to hear directly from constituents over a few rounds of drinks.
"That's why I love them," he said. "After about four or five of these, I really don't care what my constituents say."
His favorite Bombay Sapphire straight-up jumbo martini in hand, Mayor Goodman kept his humor going at The Martini in Summerlin Wednesday night.
"I have to start drinking. It's after five," he said.
The colorful ex-mob attorney met with the public and the press.
"Who cares about the stupid press," he asked. "The media, you know, I'm not a big fan of you. No, I love you, I really do."
Adam Jones is a huge fan. You'd have to be to get a tattoo of Mayor Goodman on your arm.
"I wanted a piece of the real history of Vegas, the old past, and I had to get Oscar," he said. "He runs the city. He's part of the history."
Jones also has tattoos of Las Vegas staples Bugsy Siegel, Virginia Hill and Meyer Lansky.
"Only in Las Vegas could this happen - all my clients on one arm. That's the reason I became mayor. I ran out of clients," Mayor Goodman joked.
Supporters say they will miss Mayor Goodman. "We're in the most exciting city in the planet, and we've got the best mayor in the universe. You put those two together, and a martini, and it's dynamite," said Goodman supporter Bill Fullerton.
Fortune teller Locq Fortune says Goodman has brought Las Vegas great success.
"He has Las Vegas in his life's blood. He's made it his life's mission, and yes, I do foretell Carolyn Goodman as being the winner in the mayoral race," Fortune said.
Just don't ask Mayor Goodman about his legacy. "I'm not a big legacy guy. Legacy seems like you died, and I got plenty of life in me, believe me," he said.
One of the mayor's Las Vegas showgirls said his departure marks the end of an era. Mayor Goodman says he's practicing to be his wife's showgirl if she's elected mayor June 7.
