Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- A Las Vegas police officer was arrested Sunday and charged with battery domestic violence with strangulation and shooting into an occupied structure or vehicle.

Police were called to the home of 40-year-old James Anthony Segura, a Metropolitan Police Officer, to investigate a domestic violence situation with shots fired. When officers arrived, they found the victim, Segura's ex-wife, trying to flee the area.

According to the arrest report, the pair got into an argument over a phone call. The argument became physical, and Segura's ex-wife said he began to choke her. Segura then took a handgun from the top of a television and fired a single shot.

Segura's ex-wife told police she started to run when Segura reached for the gun, so she was not sure if he aimed the gun at her when firing the shot.

Police arrested Segura and booked him into the Clark County Detention Center. He has since been released. He is currently on paid administrative leave.

According to records, Segura took the police oath in July of 2004.
