Gay Military Member Group Plans Vegas Conference

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A national association of gay, lesbian bisexual and transgender military personnel plan to host a conference in Las Vegas in October to help formulate strategies to reduce division over sexual orientation and gender identity in the military community.

OutServe planned to announce Wednesday plans for a four-day conference at the New York-New York hotel casino in October.

Officials say the OutServe Armed Forces Leadership Summit will include workshops and panels on diversity research and resources for military partners and families.

A 17-year-old ban on openly gay troops was repealed by lawmakers late last year. Since then, the military has been training its personnel on how to apply the new law. Training is expected to be completed by midsummer.
