Arbor View High School Students Protest Budget Cuts

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS - One of the first items on the chopping block for Clark County schools is classes.

While the district works to decide which things should be cut from the curriculum, dozens of students turned out Wednesday to show their opposition to budget cuts.

Arbor View High School was the site of Wednesday's protest, the latest in a string of protests by students throughout the valley. The rally drew hundreds of students, parents and teachers from Arbor View, Shadow Ridge and Centennial High Schools.

The protesters rallied to keep art and music programs alive and class sizes small.

"With more kids coming in, it's going to affect me even more, and the kids around me and our teachers," sophomore Mark Johnson said. "I don't think it's fair to anybody else if it's going to mean less one-on-one time with teachers."

The protesters urged the Nevada Legislature to find a way to raise money so schools don't have to suffer more cuts.
