Court Marshal Accepts Plea Deal for Pulling his Gun

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- A Clark County Court Marshal accused of pulling his gun on a neighbor during an off-duty incident, has pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit disorderly conduct.

Marshal Travis Best was cited after he pulled a gun on a neighbor for driving too fast in the west side neighborhood. That neighbor, Greg Ordaz, said he thought he was being car jacked because Best did not identify himself.

Best told police he was only trying to make Ordaz slow down because there was a group of kids nearby in the street. Ordaz says he learned after police arrived that Best was a peace officer.

Under the terms of a plea deal, Best received a six month suspended jail sentence, one year of informal probation and a $250 fine. Hearing Master Melissa De La Garza also ordered Best to stay out of trouble and to complete a concealed carry weapons class.

"I'm a little bit disappointed in how the judicial system is working on this, but I hope in the end, everything will be out in the open and the truth will prevail on this," said Ordaz.

If Best successfully completes his informal probation, the conviction will be reduced to misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

The hearing was scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, but the attorney's asked, without notice to 8 News NOW, that it be heard early.

No word yet on a timeline with regard to the court's investigation of Best.
