LAS VEGAS -- The man charged in the death of a 22-year-old killed by shrapnel at a Fourth of July party has struck a deal with prosecutors.

Andrew Molitor has agreed to plead guilty to a gross misdemeanor. He will serve three years probation, pay restitution, and pay $5,000 toward a scholarship fund in the name of the victim, Kasey Barlow.

Police say Molitor packed a cannon with gunpowder and lit it at a neighborhood party. The cannon exploded and killed Barlow.

Molitor was charged with second degree murder. If convicted, he could have served five years in jail. The plea means Molitor will avoid jail time if he carries out all the provisions of the deal.
