Officials have estimated a severe storm that ravaged northwest Las Vegas caused about $2 million in damage to public facilities and roads, and spawned more than 1,000 homeowner insurance claims.

City officials have asked the state to send an assessment team to determine the extent of the damage.  That team visited Las Vegas on Friday.

Authorities say most of the rain was dumped on northwest Las Vegas, flooding local roads and houses. About 3,000 people briefly lost power Tuesday night. Las Vegas search and rescue workers also saved about 50 people, including nine by air.  (Click here to read more about the dramatic rescues).

Authorities estimate damage to city facilities and infrastructure at more than $1.2 million. The estimate does not include public or private property. City officials say one house was destroyed and 37 homes sustained major damage. Another 21 had minor damage.  (Click here to read and see pictures of damages homes).
