Company Brings Families Treasure Box of Food

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- You may have noticed the price of basic food items like bread, milk and eggs has gone up at the grocery store. There is a new program starting this week in Las Vegas called the Treasure Box that aims to minimize the cost of groceries without losing the quality.

The Treasure Box is available to anyone. For the same price as a night at the movies, you can feed a family of four for a week.

"This looks like I would spend about $60 to $80 on this right here, and it's $32, from what I hear," said Celeste McPeters.

McPeters is right -- all the food comes in a box for $32. It can feed a family of four for a week or a senior citizen for a month.

Rekeita Bradford spends $300 a month on groceries for her two boys, so she signed up for a box at her church, Fresh Wind Ministry. It is one of the few local churches signing people up.

"A lot of people are going through a lot of challenges right now, and to be able to stretch your dollars to feed your family, to have one less thing off your plate to be concerned about is awesome," said Yolonda Kelker with Fresh Wind Ministries.

San Diego-based food distributor Good Source Solutions started the Treasure Boxes two years ago in California. They have since branched out into Phoenix and now Las Vegas, providing more than 15,000 boxes a month.

McPeters says she can't wait to get her box,

"I'm a sub, so work is not always available. So it would really help out with finances for me," she said.

Anyone can sign up. There is no requirement and there are five different menu boxes to choose from. You have until next Tuesday to place your order for this month, and then pick-ups will start the morning of February 26 at the designated churches.
