    NASA officials will be in Southern Nevada Friday for an announcement that could make international news. They'll be at the North Las Vegas plant of Bigelow Aerospace, a company on the cutting edge of efforts to promote private enterprise in space. Bigelow is about to invest in a major expansion that will mean up to 1,200 new jobs over the next year.

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- A Nevada aerospace company is on the verge of a breakthrough deal with NASA to send up a locally-produced spacecraft to join the International Space Station.

Friday, the number two administrator at NASA, Lori Garver, toured Bigelow Aerospace in North Las Vegas to get an update on the company's expandable space modules. They can be used in orbit or on the moon or beyond.

Garver confirmed that negotiations are underway to add one of the Bigelow modules to the ISS. A deal could be finalized within three months and the module could be launched in about two years. Garver said that partnering with private companies is NASA's future.

"There is a proposal that NASA is currently evaluating for the expansion of the space station. I am here to acknowledge the innovation and partnership represented by Bigelow Aerospace is the course NASA and the nation are on. We are all about innovating and building for the future and partnering in new ways with us industries to have a better future in space," she said.

Company founder Robert Bigelow confirmed that his plant expects to add up to 1,500 new jobs over the next three years as it goes into production mode for its line of three different spacecraft.
