Hundreds Turn Out for Job Fair

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- The demand for jobs is out there, but the demand for blue collar jobs with benefits is even higher. These jobs haven't been available for a while, and now they are popping back up.

The Luxor is one of the many MGM Resort properties that is hiring. But at that job fair, there were jobs in management positions for retail or casino properties and engineering and manufacturing positions.

"Our focus today is all maintenance positions. We are an industrial manufacturing plant and we are looking for industrial electricians, instrument repair, maintenance supervisor," said Nancy Moore with Timet.

Timet, a titanium metal manufacturing plant in Henderson, was one of the many companies at the job fair. For many years, the company was absent from events like this because they weren't looking to hire. Things though have changed.

The company, along with several others, is looking to hire, offering competitive wages that include full benefits and a 401K.

It's these kind of jobs people like Donald Weiss don't mind waiting in line for.

"I am number one in line. I just think it shows initiative on getting a good job and people see if you are the first one there, you put in the time to get a good job," he said.

The fair started at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning at Texas Station. After a nearly two hours, Weiss was able to visit the companies he had his eye on.

MGM Resorts is hiring at 11 of their properties in Las Vegas and at their corporate offices. More than 1,000 people showed up to the workshop.

In order to participate, companies had to have openings and are looking to hire immediately.
