NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- North Las Vegas has not had a murder since July, and then in one 24-hour period over the weekend, three people were killed in three separate incidents.

A gunman looking for cash shot a man who was fixing a car in front of a North Las Vegas home. Now a family is making a plea to the community to help catch the killer of the father of two teenaged sons.

Two men were fixing a car -- one of them was mechanic 44-year-old Darren Rael, hired through Craigslist. He was shot and killed and another man was nearly killed, except the shooter's gun jammed.

"Think of how you would feel if you had to watch on TV that your brother, your son, your dad, your nephew, anybody wasn't coming home. That you're never going to see them walk through the door, never get a phone call. Think of how you would feel if it affected your family. Do the right thing if you know anything," said Rael's sister Nicole Sena.

Rael died where he was shot on Iverson Lane. His family recalls his personality.

"My brother was very unique. He had so many different trades, so many different qualities about him. The biggest thing I'll miss about him is his heart," said Rael's sister Deborah Mills.

Neighbors saw a suspicious black minivan parked around the corner Friday night Gowan Road and Clayton Street. The black minivan had a bullet hole in the passenger side sliding door.

A neighbor who wanted to remain anonymous said a suspicious man was apparently casing the area minutes before the shooting.

Darren Rael had two teenaged sons. He regularly sought mechanic work on Craigslist and was working with a North Las Vegas family in front of their home when he the gunman approached demanding money.

Police say neighbors on have been helpful with their eyewitness accounts. They believe the murderer likely told another person about his crime and they are looking for somebody to talk.

If you have any information, give North Las Vegas Police a call or Crime Stoppers at call at 385-5555.
