Legal Help Needed in Foster Care Adoptions

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- An effort to find forever homes for Clark County foster children is looking for help from attorneys.

Last year alone, the Children's Attorneys Project at the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada helped 429 children get adopted. That was a record breaking year with a 129-percent increase from 2007.

The Children's Attorneys Project, which assigns Legal Aid Center staff attorneys to children in the foster care system, learned of the backlog two years ago and has been working tirelessly since then pushing the system into action.

The Legal Aid Center is currently recruiting additional pro bono attorneys to represent children in foster care so that even more children can be adopted this year.

Training for new pro bono attorneys will be held on October 26th from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law.
