LAS VEGAS - The Tea Party Express rolled into Las Vegas Tuesday. Las Vegas is the latest stop in a national tour aimed at building support for Republican Congressional candidates. Organizers and attendees of the event are counting on Sharron Angle to defeat U.S. Sen. Harry Reid.
"He's got to go," attendee Maxine Clark said of Reid. "No question. No more of these high taxes and spending money like it's going out of the trees."
Long lines of conservative voters wrapped around Stoney's Rockin' Country Bar and Restaurant where the event took place. "We're very determined to get Sharron in there," said attendee Mert Rumford. "She believes in the Constitution, and that's what I believe in."
Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio was a keynote speaker at the event. Arpaio is famous for his tent cities, pink underwear-sporting chain gangs, and immigration enforcement. He came to support the Tea Party movement.
"First of all, everybody talks about secure the border. That's a cop out," Arpaio said. "Why don't they say secure the United States of America and lock up the illegals that are already here?"
"To me, he's America's sheriff," said attendee Ruth Bryant White. "I want to let him know that we support him, that everybody who has skin color like mine is not always liberal or progressive."
Sheriff Arpaio said he believes Harry Reid has done his time, but it's time to elect Sharron Angle.
The Tea Party event was not the only campaign rally that took place on Tuesday. Senator Reid held his own rally after he voted on the campus of UNLV.
"Have you noticed that every time my opponent screws up, which is quite often, she goes into her bunker," Reid asked. "She's now canceling public events again."
"The point is if you can't talk to the media when you're running for the United States Senate, you shouldn't be running for the United States Senate."
Senator Reid is relying on his own star power to generate support. His rally on Tuesday included Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter Chuck Liddell and President Dana White. President Obama is scheduled to appear in Las Vegas on Friday.
Polls show Harry Reid and Sharron Angle are locked in a dead heat.
