A Las Vegas Family Says Goodbye to Their Little Boy

Posted: Updated:

(June 11) -- It was an emotional day for a Las Vegas family as they and hundreds of their friends said good-bye to their seven month old son, Hayden Fish, who died last Thursday after his father accidentally left him in the hot car. Channel 8 Eyewitness News reporter Cindy Cesare got to sit in on the memorial service today, she brings us the story.

It was an emotional day for a Las Vegas family as they and hundreds of their friends said good-bye to their seven month old son. Hayden Fish died last Thursday after his father accidentally left him in the hot car.

Hayden Fish only live for seven months, But his time was a gift to the Fish family. His parents, David and Stacey Fish called him "ocean eyes" for his beautiful blue eyes. And his four year old brother, Wyland, is credited with making Hayden giggle for the very first time. It was those memories that father Bill Kenny wanted people to remember.

Father Bill Kenny with Christ the King Catholic Church says, "I wanted David and Stacey to know that we all know what great parents they are. And of course David, what a great father he is."

But many people may be quick to judge David Fish. The government teacher at Centennial High School had altered his routine on Thursday because it was the first day out of school. Fish accidentally left Hayden in the family car in the school parking lot all day.

Hayden died that night.

Amy Scala, Fish's former student says, "He is such a loving, caring and compassionate person. And he has made such an impact on my life from when he was a coach of mine from 8 years ago. And he has forever changed my life that it has prompted me to be a teacher now."

Fish's showed his strength today, holding his composure for his older son, Wyland. Father Kenny says the long time members of the church will seek guidance to get through this difficult time.

Father Bill Kenny with Christ the King church says, "Some counseling and support. Both grief and marriage counseling at their initiative. They want to get through this as a couple."

Big brother Wyland led the family releasing dozens of balloons to baby Hayden in heaven. Perhaps his mother was remembering the song she used to sing to him: "Hayden, Hayden, Hayden Joe: the cutest baby that I know. He's the cutest boy around. He's the cutest Fish in town."

The district attorney's office is still investigating whether they will charge David Fish for neglect. Police officers have said that it wasn't likely because the incident was an accident.
