NV Senate Hopeful Cancels AZ Tea Party Appearance

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Event organizers say Republican U.S. Senate candidate Sharron Angle canceled attending a weekend tea party rally near the Mexican border in Arizona, but is pledged to attend a GOP picnic in northeast Nevada.

Tim Selaty Sr. on Thursday called it "kind of a shocker" for Angle to withdraw from his United We Stand For Americans border coalition event Sunday in Hereford, Ariz.

Angle had been listed as a headliner, along with Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Arizona Republican state Sen. Russell Pearce and about 20 other speakers.

Angle's campaign didn't immediately respond to messages.

An Elko County GOP official says Angle is scheduled to appear Saturday at a county Republican "Days of Liberty" picnic in Elko. Angle is running against Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
