LAS VEGAS - A valley family is devastated after its loved one was brutally murdered this week. Family members of 30-year-old Melissa Brink believe her death was the result of domestic violence.

Brink's body was found at a Budget Suites motel at 2219 N. Rancho Drive on Monday. "She didn't show up, so we knew something bad was happening," said Brink's brother-in-law Andy Kristich. "Metro has told us it was very brutal, very brutal." "How do I explain to my five-year-old that she's never going to see her mom again," asked Brink's ex-husband Joc Brink. "That's just not supposed to happen."

Family members say Brink's ex-boyfriend, Jason Garcia, was staying at the Budget Suites. Metro Police sought Garcia for questioning earlier this week. 8 News NOW has learned Nye County authorities found him in Pahrump. Garcia has since been transported to Las Vegas. He was booked in the Clark County Detention Center and charged with murder and grand larceny of an automobile.

Relatives say the two split weeks ago. Brink left Garcia. Relatives say they had no reason to believe the couple had a violent relationship. Now, they suspect domestic violence played a factor in Brink's death. "There were no signs. We didn't see anything," Kristich said. "I'm for letting him sit in there for 70 years to think about what he did, for ruining a family."

The family wants others to know the problem of domestic violence is very real. "People need to be aware," Joc Brink said. "If not, this could happen to anyone. We never thought this would happen to our family." They also want others facing domestic violence to speak up before it's too late. "Do something, because you don't want to end up like this," Joc Brink said. "Report it, because you are not alone. There are people out there to help you. If it saves one person, then that's enough," Kristich added.
