LAS VEGAS - Police were bombarded with calls Friday night about a reckless driver who was putting other motorists in danger.
The silver PT Cruiser was seen speeding and swerving moments before the wreck. Metro Police investigators say it ran off South Rainbow, sped through the desert, and got back on the road driving in the wrong direction. The car eventually collided with a Honda near Rainbow and Wigwam. The PT Cruiser caught fire after the accident.
Emergency crews rushed both drivers to University Medical Center. The driver of the Honda was listed in critical condition while the driver of the PT Cruiser was listed in serious in condition after arriving at the hospital. Metro Police say it appears alcohol and/or drugs could be a factor in this crash.
"We've had a lull in serious fatal accidents here recently, and we want to remind the public don't get sucked in," Metro Police Detective Bill Redfairn said. "You can still get involved in a serious crash like this at anytime. You never know when your number might come up."
Eyewitness Mark Richman says the PT Cruiser ran him off the road prior to the accident. "I turned around and followed the guy, because I wanted to call Metro to let them know there was a reckless driver out there with a death wish," he said. Richman was dialing 911, when he came upon the head-on collision. "I don't think there's anything that could have been done with this type of accident. The PT guy was looking to kill himself or kill someone," he said.
