New Express Bus Service from NW Las Vegas to Strip

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- The long commute from northwest Las Vegas to the Las Vegas Strip can be exhausting and frustrating for drivers. Now, you can have someone else do the driving.

Retired couple Beth and Joe Weber are taking advantage of the free bus rides this week to check out the new ACExpress service. They never thought a bus ride would be this enjoyable but their quickly adapting to their new chauffeur.

"I like it. It's a very nice service and you don't need to drive down there or anything like that, just have a good time and take the bus," said Joe Weber.

"I've already called one of my daughters this morning and said when you guys come to visit we are taking the bus down to the Strip and stuff. We aren't even driving," chimed in Beth Weber.

The RTC's new ACExpress C line caters to those on the go. If you're thinking the trek from the northwest to the strip would take hours, think again. 8 News Now rode the C line. In 20 minutes, the bus was at its first stop in downtown Las Vegas and 10 minutes later, the bus stopped outside the Las Vegas outlets. In all, it was about 40 minutes from the time the bus left the Centennial Hills Transit Center to the Strip. From there, the bus headed to UNLV.

Riders can buy passes:

  • $3 for a two-hour pass
  • $7 for a 24-hour pass
  • $15 for a three-day pass
  • $20 for a five-day pass
  • $65 for a one month pass

The transit system isn't only good news for Las Vegas riders, the new transit center is good news for the economy.  More than $6 million in stimulus funds went to building the new facility which put 350 people to work.

"We're not only creating jobs but we are keeping jobs in Nevada and providing a benefit for the people that we represent," said Congresswoman Shelley Berkley, (D) Nevada.

There are plans to expand the service to other parts of the valley. The RTC says riders can leave their cars in the park and ride lot all day. There is 24-hour security on site.
