KLAS-TV, Channel 8 welcomes home Dave Courvoisier

Posted: Updated:

(Mar. 31) --  One of the most respected and well-liked news anchors in Las Vegas broadcast history is joining the team at Channel 8, Eyewitness News.  Dave Courvoisier returns to Las Vegas television, June 30 on KLAS-TV.

“I’m very excited for the opportunity to work with a staff as professional as the Eyewitness News 8 Team,” remarks Courvoisier.  “As a former competitor of theirs, I always appreciated the level of broadcast journalism they practice, and now I have the pleasure of being a part of it.”

Mr. Courvoisier was a main anchor for 13 years at KVBC-TV.  He distinguished himself in Las Vegas with his Wednesday’s Child reports -- a news feature that focuses on issues relating to the plight of disadvantaged children.  Dave’s work on Wednesday’s Child was honored with numerous local and national awards.

Dick Fraim, Vice President, General Manager of KLAS-TV says, “Courvoisier is a true news professional and has a personality and grace under pressure that connects with the Las Vegas audience.  We’re delighted that he has decided to make Channel 8 his new home.”

Bob Stoldal, Vice President, News for KLAS-TV comments, “We’re extremely excited to have Dave Courvoisier join our team of anchors and reporters.  He knows Las Vegas, and Las Vegas knows him.  Dave’s a savvy broadcaster who brings extensive experience to Eyewitness News.”

Courvoisier left Las Vegas in 1998 to move his family closer to his aging parents in Cape Girardeau, MO.  “Being in the Midwest, and close to my parents the last 5 years is an experience I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world, but now it’s time to pick up my career again.  There’s nowhere I’d rather do it than Channel-8, Eyewitness News.”  While in Cape Girardeau, Dave spent five years as a news anchor for KFVS-TV.

Eyewitness News anchor, Gary Waddell, welcomes Dave Courvoisier, “I’m delighted to have Dave join our team at KLAS.  He was a solid competitor, but I think he’s now found his true home.  I look forward to working with him.”  Paula Francis adds, “I know he’s going to like working on this side of the street.  He’ll fit right in with the team at KLAS.”

Courvoisier began his broadcast career at KCCC radio in Carlsbad, NM, followed by KEXO radio in Grand Junction, CO before he started his television career in Grand Junction at KJCT-TV.  He worked at TV stations in West Lafayette, IN, Cape Girardeau, MO, and Greensboro, NC before coming to Las Vegas for his “first tour of duty” in 1985.

Courvoisier will co-anchor the  5 pm and 11 pm newscasts on KLAS-TV with Paula Francis.  Gary Waddell will co-anchor the Noon, 4 pm with Polly Gonzalez and the 6 pm newscasts with Paula.
