LAS VEGAS -- Federal prosecutors are getting another plea in the Medical Mafia trial.
As part of a plea agreement, personal injury attorney Noel Gage is entering an Alford plea to charges of obstruction of justice. In exchange, fraud and conspiracy charges against him will be dropped.
An Alford plea acknowledges that there is enough evidence to get a conviction, without the defendant acknowledging guilt.
The obstruction of justice charge was for not turning over information about payments made to alleged medical fixer Howard Awand. The government had requested the records in a federal subpoena.
The trial for Gage and Awand were scheduled to begin Wednesday, but has since been taken off the calendar.
The pair is accused of conspiring with a group of local doctors and lawyers to inflate malpractice settlements and take tens of millions of dollars from their clients.
Spinal surgeon Mark Kabins has already plead guilty in the case.
Gage could get up to 20 years in prison and will pay more than $700,000 to one of his clients, Melodie Simon.
