Eighteen-year-old Kevin Miranda was arrested early Sunday morning on two counts of felony DUI after being involved in an accident at Flamingo and Rainbow that killed a 24-year-old Angela Nicole Peterson.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, at 1:13 a.m. Sunday. Peterson who was driving a Pontiac Sunfire was making a left turn from eastbound Flamingo to northbound Rainbow on a green traffic signal. Miranda, the drivers of a Dodge Ram pickup,  was traveling southbound on Rainbow toward Flamingo when he failed to stop for the red light. The front of the Dodge pickup struck the left side of the Pontiac.

Peterson, as well as a 16-year-old female passenger in the Dodge pickup were both transported to University Medical Center. Peterson was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. The female juvenile passenger of the Dodge pickup was treated and released.

Further investigation revealed that the driver of the Dodge pickup, Kevin Miranda, had consumed alcoholic based beverages prior to the accident and he failed field sobriety testing. He was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center for two counts of Felony DUI/Alcohol. Miranda is due in court on Dec. 2nd.

It is believed that DUI is the cause of this accident. This was the 82nd fatal traffic accident in Metro's jurisdiction this year.
