The Southern Nevada Water Authority's plan to pipe water from rural Nevada to Las Vegas has taken a hit from a Lincoln County judge.
A July 2008 ruling by the state engineer gave the SNWA permission to pump more than 6 billion gallons per year from Dry Lake, Cave and Delamar Valleys in central Nevada.
But a coalition of ranchers, farmers and environmentalists protested the decision in a Lincoln County court, saying it would suck all the water out of those three basins.
The I-Team has learned that the judge has thrown out the state engineers ruling, calling it arbitrary, oppressive and a manifest abuse of discretion.
A spokesman for the water authority says the judge gave indications he had pre-decided the case and they will appeal all the way to the Nevada Supreme Court.
