The first of a multi-phase new project at the Red Rock Visitor Center will be unveiled on Wednesday.
The Arrival Center offers an information station, exhibits and a bookstore. The full project, which will include outdoor exhibits and an amphitheater, will be completed by mid-2010.
"Red Rock is one of the BLM's crown jewels and is a source of pride for southern Nevada," said Tim Wakefield, BLM Red Rock/Sloan field manager.
The $23 million construction was approved by the Secretary of the Interior. The new center will replace the current visitor center which opened in 1982. Back then, only 20,000 people visited the center in a year. Now, there are more than 1 million visitors a year.
