The officer was taken to UMC with severe bites to her arms and legs. Her injures are moderate and not life threatening.
All three of the dogs are now at the Lied Animal Shelter. Officers say they have custody of them and will determine if they are vicious and need to be put down. The dog's owner said he has already been asked to sign papers allowing the dogs to be euthanized.
Neighbors say a man doing work in a back yard called for help when he noticed the neighbor's three pit bulls had broke through the fence and were in his yard. Witnesses say the officer went through the gate to find the dogs and that's when she was attacked.
"There were three in the back yard. It is unsure right now if she was attacked by at least one or all three," said North Las Vegas Police Officer Mark Hoyt.
Traces of the bloody struggle were still on the gate she entered through, but luckily she also escaped.
"She made it to her vehicle and secluded herself in the vehicle to protect herself from the dogs," said Hoyt.
The officer called for help, and soon dozens of police were at the home, armed with shotguns and tranquilizers.
"No dogs were killed. We had two tranquilized and one that was taken into control by an Animal Control Officer," said Hoyt.
The three dogs were then pulled from the back yards as their owner looked on. He said one of the dogs taken was a gift for his four-year-old daughter. The other two were pregnant females he was breeding.
He says they had just broke through his fence the day before and he was coming home to fix it when he got the call his dogs had attacked an officer. Neighbors say they are glad the dogs will not return, fearing they could attack again.
"Whether we are out back or in front, they are going to get there so yeah, that concerns me -- especially because I have young children," said neighbor Jana Jarvis.
The owner says he has signed off for his dogs to be euthanzied. He was also given a $2,000 fine for each of the three dogs involved in the attack.
