Apparently running marathons isn't enough. Last year, 51-year-old Las Vegan Molly Sheridan ran in 12 ultra-marathons, but those are nothing like the one she's about to embark on this spring.
"Marathon Des Sables means the Marathon of the Sands in north Africa - Morocco," she said.
Molly is one of 700 runners from around the world who will run through the sands of the Sahara for six days, "I don't look at it as grueling, but as an adventure. How exciting!"
Running in Africa, while promoting Boys Town of Las Vegas, keeps her motivated. Also something cool is the ribbon all the kids signed, which she'll carry on her backpack while she's running through the desert, "The kids concerned about snakes."
Seems Molly can handle just about anything, like running through sand with supplies in 120 degree heat.
She'll carry all of her supplies and food on her back for six days, "They give you water at certain check points."
Hopefully this Las Vegan, who will be one of only 50 females, reaches each and every checkpoint, "It will be so exciting. I can't wait."
Molly and Boys Town are also sponsoring a 5K race on March 1, 2009. You can also buy a specific mile in Molly's race and all the money raised will go to Boys Town Nevada.
