UPDATE: 8/26/2008 Poker Pro Hoyt Corkins' Jeep was found off Craig Rd. in North Las Vegas on Tuesday morning. No obvious damage was done to the vehicle, but thieves did take the spare tire, a net and the winch system.
A team of crooks has pulled off a high-end burglary at a home in Spanish Trail. The victim is professional poker player Hoyt Corkins, and now some of his most prized possessions from the poker world are gone.
SLIDESHOW: Hoyt Corkins' Home Burglarized
This burglary was a big job where the crooks managed to get in and out of a gated and guarded community.
The criminals broke into Hoyt Corkins' home and left with two cars, a motorcycle, expensive electronics, and at least $10,000. Also taken his prized poker bracelets.
"This is what my gold bracelet was on. They left the stand, and but took the bracelet," said Hoyt Corkins, professional poker player.
His Spanish Trail home now seems empty and Corkins says some of the items are irreplaceable.
"Here is my WPT trophy case for the bracelet I had on it." Corkins' World Series of Poker bracelet and World Poker Tour bracelet were stolen and then the crooks ransacked the place.
"I feel like I was possibly targeted because I was gone from Vegas for a month. It would have been easy access," Corkins said.
Corkins' friend discovered the damage over the weekend. From the garage to closets, the crooks left their mark in every room.
"They were looking for stuff that maybe I had hidden that had value."
Corkins says the total losses from the break-in are well over $100,000 and counting. Police have dusted for fingerprints and now the search for the suspects is on.
"I don't really believe it was anybody from poker doing it, but it could have been one of their friends or something that overheard something," he said.
The veteran card player isn't putting on a poker face this time. He's accepted that he is now down on his luck.
"Hey, you got to be lucky through life, and sometimes you're lucky, and sometimes you're not. And lot of it is dealing with your bad luck," he said.
To make matters worse, Corkins' identity was also stolen. Someone who broke into his house used his office phone and got a credit card in Corkins' name. Corkins had been out of state and believes the crime actually happened at the beginning of the month.
