A Metro financial crimes detective is under arrest and facing multiple charges withdrawing at nearly $3,000 from the bank account of a man who sought police help when he had problems trying to refinance a home.

Police say an 86-year-old man and his 62-year-old daughter reported their identity stolen and were working with detective Eric Washington. The older man later discovered he was missing money from his bank account.

"The victim informed his own bank that unlawful transactions occurred on this account. He believed that the detective that he had been communicating with for his case had been responsible," said Deputy Chief Ted Moody, Metro.

Police say Eric Washington faces charges including theft, attempted theft, burglary and fraudulent use of an ATM card. Washington's suspended without pay pending completion of the investigation.

Police are reviewing all of Washington's cases to see if they can locate any other victims. Washington is assigned to Metro's Financial/Property Crimes bureau. If you are concerned, you can call 828-3620.
