Wolf hybrids are controversial, popular and legal. And Pahrump prides itself on an open, Wild West atmosphere. For these wolf hybrids, the rules are wide open because, essentially, there are no rules.

Last night the woman walked into the backyard and was attacked and bitten by eight of the hybrids. Eyewitness News was told her sons were not there at the time.

Deputies and animal control officers had to subdue and eventually euthanize them all.

The woman died shortly after being transported to the hospital.

Sherry Woodard runs an animal shelter in the area. She and Nye County Animal Control question the need for such animals.

The man, who lives there, known only as Malcolm, did not want to talk.

The backyard actually has two layers of fencing -- one chain link, the other wood. A neighbor says the hybrids were so tall, they could be seen over the top of the fence line.

Eyewitness News also looked into the Nye County rules on hybrid wolves. They are totally legal, and only need a license just like a regular dog.

If the animal has only one-percent of non-wolf blood, they are completely legal to own, but they still have 99-percent wolf attitude, genes and aggression.
