Largest Solar-Power Generation Station in U.S. to be at Nellis

Posted: Updated:

Construction started Monday on what is expected to be the largest solar-power generation station in North America.

The "Power Light Solar Array" is being built at Nellis by MMA Renewable Ventures. The facility will one day supply 25-percent of all energy used at Nellis Air Force Base.

Governor Jim Gibbons says the new facility is also going to save taxpayers a lot of money. "We import about $6 billion of energy a year. This is going to save about $1 million for the cost of taxpayers to operate Nellis Air Force Base. As I stated, it's just the beginning.

The new facility will have about 70,000 solar panels. It's located on the western edge of Nellis.
