Pahrump Church Sets Up Temporary Rest Stop for Holiday Weekend

State Highway 160 is a dangerous and deadly stretch of roadway.  And during the holidays it can be even more busy as crowds head to Las Vegas. One church has decided to give those drivers a break. They're operating their own rest stop for New Year's.

After hours behind the wheel, sometimes you need to get out of the car for a breath of fresh air or jolt of caffeine to keep you going for a long road trip.  That's where the Truth in Life Ministries International Church in Pahrump comes in.

They've set up this coffee stand on highway 160 and the Old Spanish Trail Highway, southeast of Pahrump. The church is offering free coffee, hot chocolate and snacks, 24 hours a day to motorists driving through.

"Highway 160 has had a bad name for a lot of years, and driving it all the time, yes, right about this point, is where people start getting tired," said Reverend Thomas Gilbert of the Truth in Life Ministries International.

Drivers stopping by say they appreciate the efforts of the church. Sometimes all they need to continue their trip is something as simple as a cup of coffee or a friendly face to talk to.

The church has served hundreds of drivers through this ministry.  This year they set up their operation for Labor Day, Thanksgiving and now New Year's.

The rest stop will be set up until two p.m. on New Year's Day on Highway 160 and the Old Spanish Trail Highway.
