Stolen Property Ring Gets Bigger

Metro police say one of the largest theft rings they ever busted has gotten even larger. Investigators confiscated more stolen property after searching more locations.

An ordinary home looked more like a department store warehouse when police say they found $2 million worth of stolen property on Monday.

Since then they have raided four more locations and found more valuables. Police say they got a hold of more guitars, artwork, sports memorabilia and big-ticket appliances.

There are now three people in custody.

Officers arrested Daimon Hoyt Monday during their first search. A second suspect, Brian Fergason, was already in custody on unrelated charges.

Neighbors told Eyewitness News they had no idea about the activity. However, one actually says she noticed something suspicious recently but didn't think much about it at the time.

"I noticed two weeks ago there was a big semi-truck out front and I kept waiting for people to look like they were moving in or out, but nothing ever happened. And when I came home yesterday, I was very surprised to see what was going on," she said. "That's the worst part of it. It's a safe neighborhood. It's a good neighborhood and it's just shocking that you get crime like this or people live in these houses that, you know, can't leave your garage door open or whatever."

So far police say they have executed search warrants on five properties. It's not clear if there will be more.

If you've been a burglary victim and think your property might be among the recovered items, you can call 229-3665 to make a claim.
