The Las Vegas City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to proceed with a three-day festival that will literally take over downtown Las Vegas in April.
The Las Vegas Grand Prix race will be run over a constructed 2.4 mile course throughout the area. The race means closures and safety measures, but it will also pump thousands of tourists into downtown.
Neighbors in the area met with Grand Prix officials Tuesday where people had some concerns.
With the cars racing, there's going to be a lot of noise, or, as race officials call it "sound".
The streets are going to be shut down and barricades put up. But many are still excited.
The mayor's not worried about the noise.
"Only a sourpuss would get mad if they heard a bit of noise," Oscar Goodman, Las Vegas' mayor, says.
The race is expected to bring in more than $75 million to the area. The city officials are really excited about the exposure downtown will get because the race will be on network TV.
