Second Officer Involved Shooting Leaves Man Critical

Two separate officer involved shootings occurred Tuesday afternoon within minutes of each other.

The first happened inside McCarran international Airport. The second shooting took place in the northwest near Washington and Jones sometime after 4 p.m.

Police received a 911 call of shots fired in the area of the Green Acres apartment complex.

An eyewitness said, "I was sitting at the light and all of a sudden I heard gunfire. So I looked around because I am thinking, okay, where is the shooting coming from. Then my second thought was maybe it was the Fourth of July, someone shooting fireworks 'cause it was fast."

Captain James Dillon with Metro Robbery/Homicide said, "A person called in saying they heard shots fired and saw a Hispanic male put a gun in his waistband. Officers responded, came in contact with suspect. He pulled a firearm from his waistband. The officers fired their weapons, hit the suspect and he was taken into custody to UMC."

Two police officers fired. One officer is an 8-year veteran. The other officer graduated just last week and is in his first week of field training. Both are on administrative leave.

Police are interviewing witnesses to find out more about the original gunshot reports.

The man was sitting at a bus stop when Metro officers arrived. He was taken to University Medical Center where he is currently listed in critical condition.
