Clark County Adoption Crisis

Thousands of children in the valley are in foster care, and need a home. The numbers are so high, it's put Clark County in the middle of an adoption crisis.

Right now, officials say 2,300 Clark County children are in foster care. Of those children, about 100 are ready for adoption. But one of the most important statistics shows this crisis isn't going away soon. Each year, the number of children in need of a home increases by 30 percent.

"We need to heighten awareness, educate people about the children who wait and about what it takes to adopt and foster a child," said District Court Judge Nancy Saitta.

To combat this crisis representatives from the public and private sector are coming together to raise awareness and find good families for these children.

The charity group The Adoption Exchange hosted an event at the Las Vegas Country Club Saturday night, to raise money for their cause and to bring children and potential parents together.

Eyewitness News Anchor Dave Courvoisier was the master of ceremonies.
