
Southern Nevada's Task Force One just back from the Gulf Coast is heading out again. The team left for Texas Wednesday afternoon to provide search and rescue assistance once Rita hits. The task force left from their warehouse just before 2 p.m. They will drive straight to San Antonio and wait to hear where they are needed.
Even Metro's Search and Rescue dogs are anxious to get back to hurricane territory. The trucks are loaded up and the 28 Task Force One members are on the bus.
They will drive straight to San Antonio, Texas and wait to see what Hurricane Rita takes down in its path. Many of these team members went to New Orleans days after the storm touched ground. This time they have an advantage
Cary Huddleston said, "This time around we're at the front end of it, so we will go in first. That is a different perspective and it's more exciting also. Now that we've seen the devastation we're properly prepared mentally and know what we need to do -- and the challenges and safety factors."
The final touch is adding a Nevada Task Force 1 decal to the trucks so that people know who was helping them its what these members signed up to do.
The 28 task force members along with six drivers and four Metro K-9 dogs will head straight to Fort Sam Wednesday night. They will wait at that military base to find out where Hurricane Rita is expected to hit and where they are needed to go.
