Teacher Arrested for Sexual Assault Has Criminal Record

(Aug. 6) -- The local teacher accused of having sex with a student apparently has a criminal history. Kenneth Stacy was arrested last week after a summer school student Chaparral High School told police they had sex.

Police say Stacy was convicted in January of stealing from guests at the Hard Rock Hotel, where he worked as a lifeguard. It all happened during a sting operation after police were alerted that guests' personal items were disappearing from the hotel pool.

Stacy was given two years probation, but now, the state wants Stacy to serve jail time. He has a hearing in court next Wednesday.

(Aug. 2) -- A valley teacher is being held without bail after admitting to having sex with a student. 28-year-old Kenneth Stacy is now at the Clark County Detention Center.

School police arrested him on Friday after a 17-year-old summer school student told police she had sex with Stacy at his house a week ago.

Darnell Couthen, with the school police, said, "It's uncommon to have an incident like this reported to us. We're able to investigate it and make an arrest as quick as we did. It's a tribute to the lady who felt what she was involved with was wrong and did come forward to give us information we needed."

Stacy's first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.
