(Jan. 5) -- In local entertainment news, there's a Guinness Book record that will likely be shattered Tuesday by a headliner right here on The Strip. And Mac King hopes everyone will "telephone" along with him into the record books.
Mac King is a Harrah's headliner -- a comedian and magician known for having the best afternoon show on the Las Vegas Strip. But on Tuesday, he could break a world record for the longest game of Telephone. "I use a telephone in my show. I always have loved this game and so it just seemed like a goofy way to get everyone to come and find out about the show," King said.
For those of you who were absent that day in the second grade -- Telephone is a whispering game. "You get a big line of folks. Somebody at the front of the line thinks of a phrase, whispers it to the next person, they try to whisper the exact same phrase to a third person and so on to the fourth, fifth, and so on down the line. And no matter how hard you try to exactly duplicate the phrase, by the end of the line it's completely screwed up," explained Mac King.
And therein lies the fun. The current record is 564, but Mac's hoping 800 people turn out Tuesday at Harrah's Carnaval Court to whisper their way into the record books. Mac King is thinking the whole thing will take a little over an hour.
Registration starts at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning at Harrah's Carnaval Court. The first whisper will start at 11 a.m. You must be 18 or over to participate.
Also, Penn and Teller, Clint Holmes, Lance Burton and other show-biz folks will be there, participating and entertaining while the telephone game whispers through the crowd.
