Statement Released by Sunrise Children's Hospital
As a result of the disrupted catheter lines, two patients experienced unexpected outcomes. One is doing well and has been discharged. The patient who was in critical condition has passed away. We extend our deepest sympathies to the family.
As we have stated previously, following the disruption of the umbilical arterial catheter (UAC) we immediately identified all potential variables related to the disruption and took steps to minimize or eliminate those variables, including removing staff in the vicinity from the schedule. The State Board of Nursing has suspended the licenses of two nurses and in accordance with our policy those two nurses are no longer employed by Sunrise because their licenses have been suspended for more than 14 days.
We want to reiterate our appreciation to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for how responsive they have been throughout this investigation. Since the first day we notified Metro, they have worked tirelessly with us to maintain the integrity of this investigation and to protect and respect our patients. We will continue to work with investigators to pursue all leads to bring resolution to this case. This remains an ongoing investigation by Metro and we are unable to comment further regarding the investigation or personnel matters.
