(April 4) -- A small plane crashed this morning in northwest Las Vegas killing a flight instructor and a student. The crash site is in a retention basin near Ann road and Centennial, northwest of the Centennial High School.
The single-engine Cessna 1-72 crashed and burned around 7:50 a.m. in a flood retention basin. The F.A.A. says the student and instructor were the only ones in the four-seater when it took off from North Las Vegas airport headed for a flight practice area about nine miles to the northwest. It's not clear who was at the controls when the plane crashed.
Police say a passerby witnessed the crash and drove out in a four-wheel-drive pickup to try to help, but couldn't. The Las Vegas firefighters say the plane burned and two bodies were found in the wreckage.
