
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons plans to make his re-election effort official.Gibbons' campaign says he will file for re-election Thursday at the secretary of state's office in Carson city.The first-term Republican, dogged by personal missteps, a messy divorce and a battered economy, has trailed in polls that show former federal judge Brian Sandoval leading the GOP field.
Rory Reid, Clark County commission chairman and son of U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, is the leading Democrat in the race. In his January campaign disclosure, Gibbons reported receiving $165,000 in contributions and spending all but $35,000. Sandoval raised more than $900,000 in a little over three months.
Candidate filing closes Friday, and Nevada's primary is June 8.
